It wasn't exactly her idea of a great traveling opportunity nor was it an ideal way to make it from one place to another. But when you are dirt poor and good at hiding it sometimes becomes necessary to take drastic measures. The ship had docked about an hour ago but due to the bustling of a busy workday the girl stowed aboard the cargo hold had not dared to make her move as of yet. She had made it this far by evading detection and did not plan on changing that now. It had been a long, cold and fairly lonely ride on this particular cargo ship which she had boarded in England and rode all the way to the United States. Ever since leaving her home in Bucharest, Romania she had traveled either by foot or by hitchhiking until she had reached the docks in England and after working as a waitress at a local bar had earned enough money to buy some rations for her trip. Of course she had not earned enough for a ticket and was forced to sneak aboard the ship undetected and be a stowaway the whole way to America.
This was her first time in the States and so far all she had seen of it was what was visible through a small round port hole near the area she was hiding. When the bustle had died down on the docks she took her chance and gathered what little she had in her knapsack before making her way off of the ship. Once on dry land she took in her surroundings and tried to act like she belonged there, of course that wasn't exactly the easiest thing considering she looked, acted and spoke like a foreigner. She was fluent in English but her accent was strong and very much prevelant in her speech. Her outfit consisted of a plain brown smock of a dress, brown sandals and a scarf that covered her hair. She had few other clothes with her and all of them were dirty. Her first priority was to find somewhere to live and work and something to eat.
Welcome to America.

The sound of flick knives opening in a Miami street was familiar to many residents, but no less fear inducing for the weak, the poor, the helpless. For everybody that Logan saved another two ended up in hospital or, worse, the morgue. Curtis was locking up after late shift at McDonalds when he heard the blades flick open, one in front and one behind. They didn’t kill him only drag him to the docks, Logan witnessed from across the street, he was going to save the young man, but he needed to know what the demon’s needed him for.
He was still trying to map out the danger zones of the city, where the most demonic crimes were occurring. The he had been spending a lot of time in the dock area of Miami for the past few nights, something was going down, more and more demons had been arriving through the docks and the last demon he had spoken to told him that it was coming tonight. Logan didn’t know what ‘it’ was but it wasn’t good. He stealthily followed the demons into the dock area. He walked around slowly examining the scene; the demon’s trail had gone cold.
He tried to use his sense of smell but the stench of fish and whatever else was being carried in the containers was making his heightened senses more of a hindrance than help. He walked around the crates for a second time trying to listen for any clues before he lays his eyes onto Eliza. What the hell was a young girl doing out on her own at this time, had she come from one of the crates that had been offloaded. Was she bait of some sort? Were the demon’s trying to lure him out. He slowly approached her trying not to scare her, “Kid, what do you think you’re doing here?” he spoke in hushed tones but loud enough for her to hear from few feet away.
He didn’t like this, if she wasn’t part of this she was now. He felt something stir, the demons had become active footsteps, maybe six individual pairs of footprints approached the two of them, this wasn’t good.

It seemed like as soon as the sun had gone down from the sky the docks turned into a war zone of sorts. Eliza saw the demons dragging the body of a boy before they saw her and luckily due to this she was able to move from her spot out in the open to a spot more hidden behind some shipping crates. She observed as the demons took the boy down a staircase to a lower level of docks. After they were out of site she dropped to the ground and stuck her ear to the wood, from what she could hear it sounded like there was quite a bit of commotion going on. Standing back up she looked around for a weapon of sorts, the only thing she had with her was a stake and that wouldn't help her right now.
Before she could even find any sort of weapon she was startled by the sound of someone talking to her. She hadn't even heard the culprit approach her which instantly set her onto high alert. Snapping her head in the direction of the speech she caught site of a man, a pale, blonde man. Of course he looked like a normal human but Eliza had been trained pretty well to recognize vampires and this one struck her instantly as one. Don't you come any closer to me she said in a fierce and heavily accented voice and at the same time pulled a stake out of her back pocket I know what you are. She took a few steps back away from him not daring take her eyes off of the bloodsucker that is until she heard the fast approach of footsteps and a lot of them.
Daring to take her gaze off of the vampire she glanced to her left and coming out of the shadows saw roughly six of the demon's that had drug the boy down to the lower docks. Instantly she froze, there was no way she could take on six demons and a vampire by herself. Sure she was trained for stuff like this but she was still only human and possessed no actual powers of her own. As the demons approached them she had no choice but to back up closer to the vampire that she as did not trust. This wasn't a situation she thougth she would be in the instant she docked in America. Didn't really give her high hopes but it did prove that Miami was the place to be, or not to be, at the moment depending on who you were.

Well she had good instincts that was a given. He thought as she instantly recognized him as a vampire. He nodded listening to her accent, her fighting stance was good and she had a stake in her pocket. Was the slayer that had recently relocated to Miami? No she couldn’t be, this slayer was American, she on the other hand was clearly European. He listened to her accent, it was south-eastern European, possibly Hungarian? With the next sentence he pinpointed it to Romania, certain inflictions on words even helped him locate the region she lived in.
He wondered what a teenage girl from Bucharest was doing on her on in Miami. He saw the demons emerge from the shadows and quickly approach them. The girl backed towards him as he considered his options. It was basically a fight or flight option.
”Higher ground.” he spoke in fluent Romanian, her English seemed good but he thought she would think faster in her mother tongue, ”Trust me.” he said to the girl, he stepped in front of her as he pointed to a metal ladder that led to the top of a shipping container.
”I’ll hold them off and you get up there, you’ll be safe.” he said trying to reassure her as the first of the demons attacked. He quickly fought back with a quick head butt that knocked it onto its ass, it also had the adverse affect of making Logan very dizzy. He fought on as best as he could, note to self. Whatever kinds of demons these are, their skulls are made from titanium.
Logan fought a losing battle valiantly as the young girl made her was up the ladder. he lost his footing as one of the demons managed to knock him to the ground, another shot up the ladder directly towards Eliza. ”Eyes!” Logan managed to shout before a demon slammed its foot down onto his face. he tried to fight back but they overwhelmed him one even grabbed at his head trying to snap his neck.

It instantly surprised her when this vampire spoke to her in her native tounge. How could he have known where she was from? There were a lot of accents from Europe that sounded similar but then again he was a vampire and probably had years of practice in recognizing accents. Without a word she turned and ran towards the ladder as he had told her. It wasn't like she was going to sit this fight out but he had a point about higher ground. There was no doubt he stooda higher chance of surviving as opposed to her but that didn't mean she wasn't going to try her best to help out, it was her duty. About halfway up the ladder one of the demons saw her fleeing and came in pursuit.
However, the ladder was not adept to hold two scrambling beings and was knocked off balance. As the ladder started to fall to the ground Eliza threw herself off of it and hit the ground rolling. With groan she forced herself to her feet and spotted a crowbar that had been left by the workers. Without a second thought she grabbed the crowbar and ran at the demon before it could regain its footing. With a hard swing she slammed the bar into it's gut and as it bent over in surprised pain she jammed the crowbar into the demon's eye remembering what the vampire had yelled to her. The demon stumbled and hit the ground the crowbar inbedded in his skull and brain.
Looking around quickly she spotted a shovel and grabbed it running over to where Logan was attacking one of the demon's that was ganging up on him. She slammed the shovel into the demon's foot cutting about half of the foot clean off before the demon was able to back hand her roughly sending her flying about 10 feet to the left. After a hit like that it took a moment to get back up but she wasn't giving up yet. She advanced back on the group of demons and shoved the flat head of the shovel into one of their throats sending that one stumbling off bleeding badly and gagging on it's own blood. But her victory was short lived as another noticed her there and grabbed the shovel from her in mid swing after doing so it grabbed her and threw her to the ground. Trying to catch herself from hitting too hard was a bad idea as a loud and disgusting crack filled the air followed by a blood curtling scream. The demon took advantage of this and jumping on top of her going for her throat as she tried to squirm free, her left wrist completely useless now. [/blockquote]

Logan could hardly see a thing as he listened to the ladder falling and the ensuing skirmish, he was too busy trying to keep the demon’s hands off of his head. Eliza’s distraction was all he needed to regain the upper hand, he shoved his hand into the beasts gaping mouth and grabbed its jaw. With a ferocious heave he snapped its jaw. He flipped to his feet and delivered a punt to the demon’s head knocking it to the ground, he would finish it off later.
He glanced at Eliza fighting against one of the demons, she adapted quickly in her fighting style as she took advantage of her surroundings using the shovel with lethal precision. He assumed the demon with the crowbar embedded in its eye was her handiwork as well. He grinned a little, mentally counting the demons that still fought. Two. One quickly approached Logan, whilst screamed a barbaric roar as the other attacked Eliza. It grabbed the shovel from her and tossed her to the ground and mounted her.
Logan thought fast as a demon leapt at him. he tried to swiftly kick the demon in the chest to no avail as the demon caught his foot. The demon tried to twist Logan however he was able to stand his ground. He quickly thwarted its efforts by reaching down and gripping the beats left arm below the elbow. He looked into its eyes and drank in the fear before cleanly snapping the bone with a twist he learned from Azazel back in the day. He grabbed an approaching demon and using his speed to his advantage as he slammed his heel into the demon’s knee crushing in. He followed with a swift uppercut that caught the demon’s chin at such an angle that its neck while not broken was enough to put the demon out of business.
He turned to the demon that pinned Eliza. He could see from here her arm was broken, she looked as if she was in agony, her screams backed up his theory. With ease he grabbed the shovel from the ground and rushed to her aid. With his augmented strength he was able to cleave the demon’s head off in one fell swipe. He harshly kicked the demon’s headless body off of Eliza before offering her a hand. “Are you ok, did you see where they took the young man?” he asked. He could see the girl clearly didn’t trust him. he continued to hold out his cold hands hoping she would accept his help, he was going to need hers if he was to rescue the boy from whatever was bellow the surface.

As Eliza thrashed with the demon on top of her Logan was able to take out the rest of the demons and then the one that held her pinned to the ground. Luckily by the time Logan got to that demon he had only succeeded in tearing a gash across Eliza's cheek due to all her thrashing. When Eliza saw the hand that Logan offered her she hesitated for a moment looking into his eyes and studying him before reaching up with her right hand and letting him help her up. It didn't mean that she trusted him, it just meant that she was thankful that he had been there to save her. As much as she hated to admit it a vampire had just saved her life. The creatures she had been trained to distrust and kill her entire life had just fought on her side. Without him she would be one dead girl and no one would even be able to identify her body if they ever found her.
After standing she processed his question and nodded, in her native tounge she replied They took the boy down that staircase, it leads to a lower part of the dock, a sort of platform I suppose. And yeah I will be fine, don't worry about me right now we need to save that boy, he might not have much time left. It was one of her downfalls, the fact that she would help someone in danger before helping herself. A valiant attribute in someone more than human like a slayer but for a regular human it could be a lethal trait. Her bag had fallen to the ground during the fight and she went over to retrieve it. Using a length of bandage from her bag and a chunk of 2 by 4 she spotted on the dock she quickly fashioned a makeshift splint to immobolize her left lower arm. Luckily the facility that had trained her had also taught its soldiers/students medical care to a point.
I'm game if you are she replied looking at the vampire still confused on what exactly he was and still mixed up on how she felt about him. With that she turned and headed towards the stairs quietly, walking on her toes and keeping her eyes and ears open. Whatever these demons were, there were probably more below. [/blockquote]

As he lifted her to her feet, it caught his eye. Her cheek was cut and there was a small droplet of blood dripping down her face. he tried to ignore it a looked into her eyes. He breathed in deeply as he put the delicious scent of the metallic blood to the back of his mind. He wondered how such a girl could help him, she was obviously a product of SAEB. An organization he wasn’t happy to admit that was a part of creating. After an attack he carried out on a monastery in order to obtain a certain magical artifice the Romanian government chose to fight back against the supernatural beings.
Although it the results were far less impressive when he would pick off their child soldiers with relative ease. He actually though that Eliza would put up quite a fight. He made rounds decapitating the demons that were still alive, they were no longer a threat to anybody. He watched her with admiration as she applied the makeshift splint onto her arm, she fought through the pain to apply pressure on her damaged limb. He would have groaned if she wasn’t so efficient.
He looked at her arm that dangled limply to her side as she walked to the manhole cover. “The SAEB trained you well.” he said calmly dropping a hint that he knew of her origin. He moved in front of her taking the lead, he didn’t look back to see what she made of his assertion of himself as the leader as he made his way down the staircase, it was dark. He could hear breathing, exhausted strained breaths were very clear. He identified a few separate human heartbeats.
”There’s three hostages.” he said in a low voice so that only she could hear him. he tried to strategize think what would be best for them. ”I’ll lead the charge. We need to find out what’s arrived tonight and why it needs three live bodies, I’m guessing it’s something that hasn’t eaten in a while.” he says hoping it’s a vampire but fears something worse.

What little, tiny bit of trust that Eliza held for the vampire that had saved her ebbed away when he casually meantioned the SAEB. SAEB was the organization that she had hundreds of others had been trained by and it made her feel extremely wary that he knew of the organization. When he said this her bright grey blue eyes turned to daggers showing on through her eyes that he was quicky losing her as an ally at this point. When he took the lead it wasn't something that really bothered her, during training she had been taught to follow and would do so...to a point. Eliza had always been strong willed and if she strongly disagreed with something she would not follow it no matter the consequences, this though she knew was right.
Once they dropped own into the darkness she heard him laying out the plan for her. Don't you think we should stay out of sight for now and find out what we are dealing with before we go barging in like a bunch of barbarians. You have no idea how many demons are down there or god knows what else. I don't think it wise to run in without at least a visual of what we are up against first. In case you haven't noticed I may know how to fight but I am not anything special. Her voice was not near friendly, more edged with venom then contentment. This vampire was someone that she didn't trust at all, she didn't think he would kill her but it did bother her that he knew so much about her.
After this is over we need to talk. I want to know what you know about the SAEB she growled quietly and then fell back behind him to wait for him to lead the way. He seemed to want to be the boss and so she would let him be for now. It wasn't like after tonight she would ever have to deal with him again and she would do gladly. Vampires weren't creatures that she liked to associate with no matter the circumstances. SAEB may have trained her well but that didn't mean she wasn't easy to kill. SAEB taught its soldiers to fight and while the kids that were trained now stand a better chance against the supernatural than someone that is ignorant to it, it doesn't mean they were matched. SAEB trained its soldiers to fight in pods so that it would generally be four soldiers against one demon or something like that, they were never meant to fight alone. [/blockquote]

He smiled nervously at her questioning of his lead. He had never really thought about strategy deeply, usually his natural skill set with a large portion luck was enough to get him through most encounters. Her analysis of the situation was correct, but it was very militaristic. ”You shouldn’t put yourself down like that. I’ve seen Slayers overcome by less.” he said hinting at his past. He realised that his direct approach may not be the best. He recognised a sharpness to her voice that he liked a little, anger helped in these situations.
He looked down as she asked about SAEB. She didn’t seem entirely optimistic about her experience with them, he could tell just from the tone of her voice. “I’ll tell you what I know about its origins but it won’t change what happened to you.” He could almost sympathise with her the two lost their souls by another’s choice. For Logan it was the day the convict sired him, but for Eliza it was when she was taken from her family and put into a training program. She was turned into a weapon, he could see that from the way she moved, her posture was perfect, she had a steely determination in her eyes. “Ok so if I survive this; I’ll answer your questions.” he said quietly.
”The way I look at it is if those were the grunts Imagine how strong the boss is gonna be? Or the boss is a weakling and there’s another six of those guys down there. Worst case scenario there’s another ten of them and a powerful leader. Best case scenario is we get in there, you let the hostages out and I hold off whatever ‘it’ is for as long as possible.” he proposed. “Or you could go down there and get sniffed out by whatever is waiting for us? Or do you have a better idea because if you want to lead I’ll follow you.” he asked.

Eliza meerly shrugged when he meantioned slayers. It was true that her training might be better than that of a slayer but she also lacked the intuition and strength that the slayers possessed. If a slayer had been trained the way she was it would probably be a better slayer than just some random girl that is told she is slayer and sent off to fight without formal training. There is only so much that instinct can provide you and after that it is up to your skills and abilities. When he meantioned that he would tell her about what he knew if he survived she grimaced but nodded. Deal. I know I can't change what they did to me but that doesn't stop me from wanting to know why. It isn't only for me but for the hundreds of lives they ruined she sighed and glanced down at her feet. SAEB figured that once they got shut down and sent everyone home that things would be ok but they were wrong. Some kids didn't even have families left to go to and some, like Eliza, found it impossible to live a normal life.
Eliza listened to his strategy carefully and when he was finished thougth for a moment. I will follow you, so lead the way. We don't know what is down there but I suppose we will find out very soon. I will head straight for the hostages and try to get them out as fast as I can. Hold off the demons as best you can and if it becomes too much we will deal with it then she answered and stood beside him waiting for him to lead the brigade. She hoped they weren't too late and that at least some of the hostages were still alive, she knew it was impossible to save every endangered life but that didn't stop her from trying. Logan nodded as they agreed on their plan, his plan. He made his way down the stairs and into the large cargo area, he silently gestured to the direction the hostages waited as he continued towards where he could hear the congregation of demons. They all gathered around a large crate that had been torn open, he could sense . . . hay? He got closer but the cluster of demons was preventing him from seeing what they had released.
He counted four demons plus whatever was amongst the hay. The numbers didn’t look in his favour but he had the element of surprise and a shovel.
With he looked behind to see how Eliza was dealing with the prisoners before making his opening gambit. With a steady arm he marked his target, the largest of the demons, probably the leader. Most demons followed a pack mentality. He lined up his shot and began running, his steps were loud enough for the demons to turn and take notice as he tossed the shovel like a javelin, the blunt force of the metal section cleaved through the demon’s skull. He couldn’t resist smiling as the demon fell to the floor in a slump; the three other demons became active as he saw what they were looking at.
Inside the crate amongst the hay rested a cocoon. Over 6 foot long and three feet wide he could see it was stirring, from the looks of it, it was about to hatch. Logan knew when it hatched it was certainly going to be hungry which explained the captives. The cocoon was scaly and covered in a strange sort of goo which made the hay stick to it. His curious side was intrigued to find out what would emerge, however his practical side knew he had to deal with it before it before.
He managed to fight off the remaining demons that were out of synch without their leader. He grabbed his Zippo from his pocket, he flicked open the top and tossed it into the crate. He bemoaned the loss of his favourite lighter by kicking a demon hard in the face knocking it down before he stomped hard on its throat. The other two rushed to the cocoon and tried to fan out the flames which were spreading like wildfire. He casually picked up the shovel that lay on the floor and in two quick movements put an end to the demons.
He ran towards the staircase and looked around, there was no sign of Eliza and the combination of the burning fire and hisses and shrieks of the cocooned beast were throwing off his advanced senses. “Girl?” he asked having not asked for her name. He stood at the bottom of the stairs waiting for confirmation that she had escaped or if she was in trouble.

Eliza followed Logan until they reached the opening underneath and then looked over to where he had gestered. There sat three hostages, two boys and one girl. Luckily they were all awake and looked as if they were going to be able to walk on their own. Eliza ran over to them once she saw that Logan successfully had the demons occupied. It only took her a moment to untie their bounded knots and then she signaled for them to keep quiet and follow her. The girl was crying but tried to stiffle her sobs so that the demons wouldn't notice their escape. Eliza led them back out the way they had entered and signaled for them to climb one by one up the ladder. Once you get to the top I want you to walk each other home or go to safe house somewhere. You shouldn't be out at night and I hope in the future you will be more careful. Now go, quickly her voice was commanding and none of the scared teenagers dared to question her.
When Eliza heard her name she knew that Logan had finished his conquest and was heading back to the enterance. I'm up here she answered when she heard him call "girl." It became apparent to her that it may have been a little bit of a bad idea not to tell each others their names but all had turned out alright and things couldn't be changed. Besides she wasn't sure she trusted him with her name just yet. Waiting for him to return to the surface she contemplated what it was she wanted to know from him and how much he might know. And hey you owe me some answers since you survived she replied to him glancing down the dark stairway. This vampire rubbed her wrong, he was fighting on her side but knew too much, it bothered her. Logan made his way up the staircase; the sounds of the screams were dying out as the fire annihilated whatever was ready to emerge from the cocoon. He was happy to be able to overcome the demons before the real threat had been able to get involved. Overall it was a job well done even if he wasn’t seeing eye to eye with his 'partner'.
He emerged from the stairwell to Eliza standing there; the look on her face said everything. She needed answers, answers that Logan could provide he just wasn’t sure if this was the right time. He walked a little, he couldn’t bear to look her in the eye, “You should sit down, it’s going to take a while.” he said as he walked away from her.
He thought catharsis was supposed to feel good but his stomach churned. “Close to end of world war two the world needed a new enemy. Some of the experiments that the Nazis carried out had awoken some mystical forces in Eastern Europe. Although vampirism was always an issue in Eastern Europe with the hundreds of dead alliance and axis soldier’s blood now drenching the soils something seemed to be growing. Paranormal activity across the whole of Europe had increased and Romania was the worst struck.” He spoke with an emotionally distant voice, like he was trying to detach himself from the events of the time but he was clearly still caught up in the events. ”Vampires had lain low during the war, they wanted to have an uprising once the humans had weakened themselves. But 'the bomb' changed everything, their plan to expose themselves to the world had to wait for another day.”
”But a gang in Romania didn’t get that memo, they attacked a small village called Botostani, they killed almost five hundred people in a week, the government asked for help from the Watchers Council but their pleas were ignored, they had to do something for themselves. SAEB was the result of that.” he calmly told her. He knew there would be more questions. “So, is there anything else you would like to know?” He asked despite himself as plumes of smoke soared from the staircase.

When Logan finally came back up from the staircase Eliza waited for him to speak. When he told her that she might want to sit down she ignored him and stood where she was not moving. She listened intently to his account on the whole thing and nodded as he produced the information that she had asked for. She supposed that the things he said made sense. SAEB at least had a reason to be founded but what they did had still when wrong. How do you know so much about this though? she asked looking him in the eye. It was evident to her that he was avoiding eye contact with her and she wanted to know why. Something about her and what they were talking about was making him uneasy.
What they did was wrong. While they may not have mistreated us incredibly, they took away our lives. If you were a good student then things went well for you but if you resisted then your were punished...severly. It isn't a time of my life that I particulary like and though I can't change it that doesn't mean that I am any less resentful of it. Because of them I can't even live a normal life. I don't know how to love really because I was never raised by a real family. I may not be able to change the past but I can change the future. All I want to do now is protect people that can't protect themselves. I was two years old when they stole me from home and by the time the facility was shutdown my parents had been killed her voice shook when she spoke of her past and years edged her eyes but she refused to let them fall. Tears were weakness and weakness was bad.
I just want to understand why they did what they did. Why they destroyed our lives. [/blockquote]
