It was night time. It was always night time, now. He’d panicked when the sun had come up the first time in this city. He could clearly remember how it had burned his skin and set his fingers on fire, and made him curl up in the corner of the room in his old, deserted house the very first time he’d encountered it after...after whatever it was that happened. He’d thought it would burn him again, here, and he wouldn’t be able to get away from it. Until, that is, he’d found the hole in the ground and spent the rest of the sunny hours playing tag with his own shadow in the basement of an empty house he’d found. That was his. He’d never had his own house before, actually. Intriguing.
Perhaps he could find someone to join in with that next time. That could be fun.
Now it was dark, but not really, really dark. Sunset had just passed, he thought, because he’d been waiting for it impatiently for quite a while, and he was up in the air once more. And it was cold, or should have been, with a soft breeze that, before, he would have whined was un-neatening his hair. Now though, he didn’t care in the slightest. He was still strange about feeling like that, like not caring. Toby had always used to be someone who cared greatly. Now...well, now everything was different and it was strange and scary and frightening, but exhilarating at the same time. He wasn’t sure what to think about it...
But he wasn’t really thinking about it, not now, because instead he was sat on a slowly revolving roundabout, in a park (A park!), staring thoughtfully at the metal bands around each of his wrists. They weren’t tight...not tight enough to hurt, but he didn’t like them. They’d been put on by the demons. Each one had a small metal loop where the chains had threaded through, and odd patterns around the outside. They were rather pretty, but annoying. He couldn’t get them off. Hitting them against the side of the roundabout had only made a dent. In the roundabout, not in the band.
“Stupid things...” he muttered to himself, shaking his wrists experimentally. Again. Perhaps he could bite them off. Yes, that might work. He lifted one wrist to his mouth, closing his teeth around the metal and trying to gnaw it off. It would probably work better if he could change his face again, like he did when he bit someone. But that gave him a headache when he tried and there wasn’t blood around, so he didn’t bother. Besides, humans hadn’t liked that, which wasn’t that suprising. So changing could cause trouble. Probably.

It wasn't a general habit for Eliza to walk around after the sun had gone down especially in this part of town. But she had been out and about and decided to just risk it this one night and go check out the park. Sure there was the possibility that there could be vampires there but she was fairly certain she could handle herself at the very least. If not she could always run. She was wearing good clothes for fighting or running or even just sitting, whichever the night would entail. A pair of dark blue jeans, black converse, a purple t-shirt and a black jacket. Her long hair was pulled up into a messy ponytail since she didn't really care about impressing anyone at this point in time.
As she neared the park she spotted the swings, swings were always fun to sit on and ponder about things. As she walked over to them she realized that she was not exactly alone in the park on this particular night. It was light enough that she could make out the shape of someone sitting on the roundabout. From this distance she couldn't tell whether he was friend or foe, threat or not. She decided to just continue on her path to the swings and wait to see what the person or thing would do. She had a stake in her bag at her side just in case.
Once sat on the swings she made sure to sit facing the direction of the other person just in case it decided to get up and make a move for her. It could be a vampire but that would strike her as rather odd because vampires weren't generally known to just sit and hang out on a roundabout, generally they were prowling around for food. Never had shee seen one except maybe Logan who had a soul sit and ponder. It was an odd sight, maybe the person was human though and she was just making presumptions.
Either way she would probably find out sooner or later. If the person was a vampire they would most likely attack some point and if not then maybe they would initiate a conversation or something. Until then she decided to wait it out and let the other person make the first move, from there she would decide how to proceed with things. Her thinking was very military based due to her training, maybe that was bad but maybe it was good. Time would tell. [/blockquote]

Company. He had company. That was something he noticed straight away, as soon as the person came within scenting distance. His heart seemed to beat in his chest, rapidly, in excitement, but that wasn't possible, was it? Because he was dead, and so it couldn't beat. But it was company...He raised his head, wrist still in his mouth, as the roundabout continued on it's slow revolutions. Human. Human female. It wasn't so long ago that he wouldn't have known that, really. And this one was quite hard to recognise, because usually human scents were mixed in with one another, and he was distracted by the music, or the blood if he was feeding. Feeding...
No. He wasn't hungry. He'd been fed earlier, and quite enjoyed it. He'd managed to have quite a bit before getting sick of the taste. And then let the little tramp go, because watching them run only reminded him how full of life they were, and that was good. Although...well, blood was blood...and just thinking about it made him burn for it...
Or maybe that was the roundabout. He should stop it, really. Trying to watch the person entering the park while spinning in circles on a (now dented) metal roundabout wasn't the best of ideas, he was sure. So he dropped his wrist from his mouth, forgetting about the bands completely for now. He scooted forward, and unfolded his legs so he was sat at the edge of the metal floor of the toy, before swinging his legs down and digging his bare feet into the ground to stop it. That was what he had done before the Box, when he'd been by himself, and he'd wanted to stop these things. They...hadn't made such a loud creaking sound before though. Either that, or it was just his now more sensitive hearing which was making the metal grate against his brain.
He flinched, then brought a hand up to rub at his left ear. Owiee. Oh...he glanced upwards, suddenly aware that he had probably attracted the female's attention. Company's attention. Company was good. Tobias did like company, even human company. So he lowered the hand from his ear, then raised it in a wave, feeling oddly stupid. "Uh...hello."

It was maybe two minutes after she had sat down that the person that had been on the roundabout noticed her presence and stopped the thing from spinning round and round. After the person was safely on the ground they waved and greeted her. Despite not knowing the person, or guy more particulary she waved and offered a soft smile Hello she replied in her accented voice. He seemed friendly enough and never had she had a vampire that meant to kill her greet her first. Not that she assumed he was a vampire or anything, but he could be, he wasn't close enough to her for her to tell by sight. He dressed mondern which didn't mean much, some vampires did and some didn't it just depended.
Sorry if I disturbed you or anything. You must have had the same idea as me. Park seemed like a good place to think she replied with a shrug and a small smile. She hoped that he hadn't wanted the place to himself because then that would cue the awkwardness and she would have leave. Which to be honest she wasn't ready to go home, well what she now called home. She enjoyed being around Logan and appreciated the place he had given her to stay but she didn't like being cooped up indoors for long periods of time either. She was a restless person and if she sat still for too long she would start to think about things that would go better left unthought of.
Her past wasn't something she tried to dwell on but when left alone to think it was something she sometimes did. It was still hard for her to swallow the fact that her childhood had been stolen, but of course like Logan had said there was no way to change it. Logan had told her a little more about SAEB and helped her understand why they had done the things they had but it didn't make the hurt go away, nothing would. Things had been better since she had come to Miami though because at least here she had people to protect and a job to do, it made her feel worthwhile.
I'm Elizabeth by the way. As long as you don't threaten to eat me you can come sit over here if you like she replied half joking and half not. If he was human she had nothing to worry about, if he was vampire then she might have something to worry about. [/blockquote]

As usual, the first sign of him being acknowledged had him grinning like crazy, and feeling flooded by the warmth of not-being-along. Thankfully, it wasn't as strong as it had been with the vampire. Why was that, he often wondered. Around humans he just felt happy, especially when they paid attention to him. Around the vampire, he became a mess of purring and trying to stay close. Oh well. Too much to think about. She was human, and here, and he wasn't alone. She looked slightly younger than he did...probably. He hadn't seen himself for a while, no matter how long he stood standing in front of window's looking. But he was twenty one. He thought, anyway, but that just opened up a new set of questions about why on earth he felt much younger.
"Indeed," he said with a small laugh, "Though, admittedly, I was drawn here by the fact that it's a park more than anything." He didn't really know why that was either. He'd never liked them as a human...but things had changed. What was odd that although apparantly he wasn't, he still felt human. It was just confusing, and he didn't understand, but his attention span wasn't long enough to understand. Vicious circle.
He jumped up at the offer, not caring whether he seemed to eager. He was always, always eager for company. Company was distraction, and made that pain inside him (not the hunger pain, the other, deeper one) fade, even just for a tiny bit. He slid onto the bench beside her, and flashed a cheeky grin in her direction with a small toss of his head. His hair kept getting in the way. "Don't worry. I just ate." He wasn't sure how she'd take that...but wasn't worried either. Humans always liked him, especially when he was feeding from them. And it was true. He had eaten earlier, hadn't he? He wasn't hungry again just yet.

He was a vampire, that became instantly apparent as he got closer and she could really see him. He was not exceptionally tall but tall enough and on the slender side. His skin was pale which was the dead ringer for vampire but he was odd to her because he was calm and collected. Was it possible that he had a soul like Logan? Or was he just not a blood hungry, raging monster like so many of the others that she had met and killed. Well parks are generally good places, maybe more so during the daylight hours but for someone that can handle themselves it is a good place any time she replied insinuating that she could handle herself if he tried anything.
It didn't make her feel all that good when he meantioned that he had already eaten. The idea that he had fed off of a human made her quesy, uneasy and a little angry. Vampires thought it was their right to feed off of the life around them like little parasites but really they were nothing but the shell of a human, easily killed and in general lacking human apathies. But this one seemed different, at least in some ways. He obviously still fed on the blood of humans but he was somehow different. He acted as though he wanted companionship, longed for it maybe. It was a new concept to her that vampires could be inherently good...hearted? That wasn't exactly the word she was looking for but it would work.
In all techinicality vampires still had hearts they just didn't beat. I guess that should be a comfort to me then she replied with a slightly turned off tone in response to his comment about previously eating. So I am curious, who and what are you exactly? I mean I know you are a vampire but you are only the second vampire that I have ever met that didn't try to kill me right away. Do you have a soul or something? she asked genuinely curious. She was learning so much more here in Miami than she ever had in Romania. [/blockquote]

His eyes widened slightly, and he shook his head quickly. “No, no, the daylight hours are bad. They burn and scorch and...” he frowned slightly, trying to think of something more original to say than another word meaning ‘burn’. He was sure that one of his lessons had been that going into sun was bad. He just wasn’t sure what else it was. “And you get stung by wasps,” he concluded with a satisfied nod. He didn’t like wasps, actually, when he thought about it. So that was a rather valid point.
Wait, did this mean she knew what he was? He thought about that for about two seconds, then dismissed it. It wasn’t important. Technically, he wasn’t even still sure what he was, so other people couldn’t be, except they did seem to be. And she was human, and company, and he could hear her heartbeat and it was calming. And apparently she did know what he was anyway, according to what she’d just said. But then...did it really matter, what he was? Other humans didn’t seem to care. They still liked him.
“Should it?” he inquired, tilting his head to the side, “Oh...probably. I mean, it means I’m not that hungry no, doesn’t it? Eating earlier does that, it does. Stops you feeling hungry after. Unless you don’t have enough, of course.” He added the last bit with a small shrug of his shoulders. And then his voice took on a mystified tone, and he blinked, watching her with wide eyes. “Why would I try to kill you? Are you going to try to kill me?” He wasn’t sure about the idea of killing. It was a vampire thing...and really, if he thought about it, he didn’t care, but he had a strong idea that killing would be boring. Talking to people was more fun, wasn’t it? People couldn’t talk when they were dead.
“A soul?” Huh? Souls existed? Well, he’d only recently found out vampire’s existed, so he guessed it was possible. Asking whether he had one though...was he meant to? He nodded anyway, because agreeing with someone made everything so much easier when it came to the asking-questions part. “Yes. No. Maybe. What’s a soul do?”
