i should have looked again,
BUT OH, I'M STARING AT THE MESS I MADE
strength: as a slayer, gemma has superhuman strength that allows her to fight vampires as well as whatever else may come her way. it's not total strength, seeing as she still has to put effort into it and actually throw her all into it to come out of a fight and still feel put together. seeing as she's still a new slayer, she doesn't have a handle on her strength and often ends up overdoing things when she shouldn't even be using her strength at all. regardless of this her strength is still very important, and when used at the right time for the right reason. along with the strength she gained she had to learn to fight, as well as use weapons, both of which seem to be coming along nicely.
speed: another thing that comes with being a slayer is superhuman speed. she can easily outrun cars, catch up to trains, as well as other things to get to whatever it is she needs to. the speed helps when chasing vampires and other demons, though it is certainly possible to outrun her. while she's fast it's not like she just runs by completely unnoticed like other things with superhuman speed, her speed is a bit toned down and you can see her running by.
reflexes: while this needs to be worked on, gemma has rather good reflexes which also seems to come with the territory of being the slayer. often worked on with her watcher, it's something that takes time, but if she concentrates enough she could do as much as move out of the way of a bullet coming her way, or stop an arrow while it's still in the air, etc. gemma has trouble concentrating though, so her reflexes aren't exactly perfect, and she spends more time working on her reflexes than anything else.
durability/healing: it takes a lot to bruise or really harm gemma. though if she happens to come across a demon that's stronger than her it may not take much for them. generally speaking though, they have to be quite a bit stronger than her, but she still puts up a fight. when gemma does become harmed, she heals rather quickly. bruises, scratches, and other 'lighter' marks are gone within twenty four hours. broken bones may take a day or two, but mostly everything appears to be healed in quite a fast amount of time. the longest anything has ever taken to heal on gemma is three days when she was attacked by a vampire on her first day in training.
organization: gemma has a habit of being very organized in life. often taking time out of her day to sort her things, plan ahead, and whatever else comes her way. she likes to have well thought out plans when it comes to taking something on face to face, though at times she finds it necessary to jump in without a plan. though, gemma can easily come up with a plan in an unfamiliar situation, if she just jumps into something she can easily organize a plan in her mind and take it on a piece at a time, with little time to think it all through. without organization gemma tends to find herself a little lost, she likes having things in order and having things thought out. the one problem is, she likes to think these things out on her own, too stubborn to take advice from others. from time to time she'll take it, but she'd much rather do it on her own.
prophetic dreams: the dreams come along with being a slayer, though when gemma first started to get them, she was unaware as to what they were and they most certainly keyed her out. they can help key gemma into not only future but also past events. they help put things together, and figure out what's to come before whatever is going on has even had a time to happen. it's a lot like having 'another sense'.
WEAKNESSES
stubborn: gemma doesn't like to get help from others, or even listen to others. she has a problem with following the rules and can often be caught breaking them. she'd much rather do the whole thing on her own, and will often shut others out because of it. she can often be found running around on her own, and this often gets her into trouble when it's something that requires back up, or a plan from her watcher or something of the likes. she has a hard time listening, and often tunes others out, especially her watcher, mainly because she thinks her watcher is just there to tell her what to do and gemma doesn't think she should have to put up with mom 2.0. and on top of all that? once gemma's mind is set on something, she won't change it.
over sociable/would rather be human: gemma would much rather live the life she had before she found out she was the slayer, and this is what makes her rather over sociable. she's often out, doing whatever it is she feels she wants to do. she puts things with other people over things her watcher would want her to do. she's often ditched practice with her watcher for cheerleading practice or dates, or just to go out and have fun at the bronze. the one thing slayer related thing she actually does put first is patrolling, mainly because she feels guilty if she misses patrolling. besides that, she tends to put other things first and this is certainly one of her downfalls, showing that she's not as dedicated as one should. though, it's because she only just became a slayer half a year ago and she's still working on getting herself into it. she's not confident with the things she does that are slayer related and she does believe she'll screw up and that it was all meant for someone else, which is why she tends to put her 'life' ahead of being a slayer, because she knows she could at least deal with the things she used to and that it's something she's good at.
independent: while this may be a good thing, it can also prove to be quite the weakness. gemma would rather do things on her own, mainly because she's a very stubborn person and thinks she can do it all on her own. she's often out patrolling or going after the most recent demon or vampire on her own, and this can cause quite the problem if there's more than one, or they're stronger than she is. she often doesn't tell people where she's running off to either, so if she was to get caught during patrolling or something, no one would really know where she had gone off to.
reckless: constantly causing trouble she tends to put peoples lives at risk, as well as her own. she tends to do rather dangerous things and not bother with others. she's also rather destructive, with a bit of a temper on her hands. when she's angry it's the best you just get out of her way, because she tends to go on a punching spree. whether that be with a punching bag, a wall... or a person who's royally pissed her off. from time to time, she can just be dangerous to be around.
secretive: gemma is rather secretive about the things she does, which comes in handy with being a slayer, but proves to be a weakness when she's missing and she hasn't told a soul where she's run off to. she tends to run off on her own and with people not knowing what she's up to, she could be dead a no single person would have a clue as to where to find her. she keeps things to herself, which proves to people that she can be a bit distrusting from time to time. she tends to keep the personals a secret, she doesn't hide everything, it's not like that all. she simply hides whatever she deems to be 'her own', something 'personal' to her. it's not a whole lot of things, maybe a handful if that but they tend to be important things other might feel the need to be clued in on.

i'm staring at the mess i made,
AS YOU TURN YOU TAKE YOUR HEART AND WALK AWAY
gemma's appearance is quite appealing, when taken into consideration. she appears to be quite frail and dainty though, and that's why when most demons find out she's the slayer they laugh right in her face. she's rather short at only five one, and has tiny hands compared to most others. she's rather thin at one hundred and thirteen pounds, often fighting things that weigh half her size. while her body size tends to throw them off seeing as she's rather tiny, her appearance in general doesn't seem to scream slayer to them either, seeing as she's always smiling and appears to be rather bubbly. long blonde hair, with a slight natural curl to it, and emerald green eyes with flecks of brown. the only thing gemma can really point at appearance wise and say why that makes her a slayer is the scar on the side of her neck. when she first found out she was a slayer she sort of freaked out, and in her first training with a real vampire to slay, he'd gotten a hold of her and almost bit her neck, which is what the scar is from. fortunately, she gained her composure and got out of the grip, but the scar is still there from her first real vampire encounter.
PERSONALITY
ever since gemma was born she's been a handful, always hard to handle. she's always been very independent, as well as stubborn, and she'd much rather run off and do her own thing than stick to a group. she's a leader, if anything, she doesn't follow what other people tell her to do, and she has a horrible time listening to what people tell her to do. she's always been horrible at listening, always, when she was little and her mother used to tell her to go to her room she couldn't even manage that much. now that she has a watcher to listen to, it's only gotten worse. gemma feels as if her watcher is just there to tell her what to do, and gemma's doing the best she can not to listen. sometimes, she gives in and actually does as she's told, but it's a rarity. gemma is practically driven to do the exact opposite of everything she's told, which is a tragic thing now that she's a slayer, seeing as now she's not only putting her own life in danger but others as well. which is a problem, seeing as she ought to be saving the lives of the innocent not causing more problems for them. she's not off to be a rogue slayer and start fighting the good guys, she'd just rather do things her own way and nobody seems to let her, so she does it anyway which tends to put people in danger when it comes to other forces.
gemma's biggest problem though, isn't the fact that she can't listen. it's that she'd rather be human and not have to deal with being a slayer, she doesn't want to be responsible for lives everywhere, or for tracking down demons and putting an end to them. she'd much rather have tests to study for, dates to go on, and cheerleading practices to attend. all of which she already does, but the stress of being a slayer isn't something she wants to deal with. she tends to put all those things ahead of her slayer responsibilities, she still does cheer, and she still goes on dates, and puts school things and her own life ahead of the things she ought to be doing instead. the main reason she does this is due to her insecurity, she knows she's good at those things, whereas she just became a slayer a few months ago and it doesn't seem to be taking to her lightly. she's gotten her ass kicked more than a few times, and she's not appreciating the fact that she's responsible for so much. she's sixteen and has the whole world on her shoulders, and she just doesn't think she's up for that. her insecurities in the fact that she doesn't think she can do it is why she puts everything else first, everything else that she knows she can do.
while she's a bit of a rebel and a tad bit to hard to put up with, she likes to have fun. she's up for almost anything, and she lives on the edge, bravery guarding her every more. she's a bit of a spitfire, or a ticking time bomb, and she keeps things to herself, so you never really know what she's going to do next. when she does talk though, she's very sarcastic and she has a habit of making fun of people, not in a rather hardcore way but in an amusing way. she's a tad bit too honest, but she believes that all honesty is good, while others find it downright atrocious. she does things she shouldn't, but she's strongwilled, and if she only wised up a bit slayer-wise she'd probably prove to be a much better, more determined slayer.

should've held my ground, could've been redeemed
FOR EVERY SECOND CHANCE THAT CHANGED IT'S MIND ON ME
it started in new york city. josephine james and scott bennett met in their third year of college, and they fell in love quickly, something that proved later to be a problem. they fought a lot, and they had quite a rocky relationship, no one really thought they'd last long, let alone get married. though, they managed both. after a year together josephine realized she was pregnant and when she told scott he quickly proposed, feeling like he did the right thing. at first, josephine told him she couldn't but she later took it back, thinking that their child deserved a full family, together. the pregnancy was nine long months of ups and downs. josephine dropped out of college, feeling unable to attend because of the child, and scott dropped out to get a job so he could actually support for his fiance and his unborn child. around the fourth month of her pregnancy, the pair got married, and moved in together. on august fourth, sixteen years ago, the baby was born and named gemma brynn bennett after scott's mother who died of cancer when he was young. they thought they'd beat the storm once the baby was born but they were quickly proven wrong. the child was a handful, constantly crying, always needing something, josephine barely got sleep and scott was working one job to pay for the amount of diapers they needed and another to pay for everything else. they thought maybe things would get better as the baby got older, but gemma was a handful the entire time. as she got older, she was a troublemaker. often running off while her mother napped and doing what she wanted, and she was a horrible listener, stubborn ever since she was a young child. sure, there were the good moments, but the parents were young and they felt they could barely care for themselves and by the time gemma was three they were wondering how they couldn't worry that maybe this was a mistake. their marriage finally got better when gemma was old enough for school. a few hours, five days a week, without her in their care helped ease their tempers, and by the time gemma was six they seemed to be a nice family, for the first time.
gemma's life itself was rather uneventful, for a while, seeing as all she did was cause trouble and do nothing but for the first fourteen years of her life. by the time she hit high school she felt she knew what she was doing. she joined the cheerleading squad, and went out and did what any other kid her age seemed to be doing. there was nothing more to it. she was a sweet kid, a tad bit too sarcastic, but sweet none the less. she had friends and people liked her, her grades were poor but she knew how to charm the teachers into giving her extra time to turn in assignments. it wasn't that she wasn't smart, because she most certainly was, she'd always been a rather intelligent girl she just had a few problems applying herself. she was the type of girl who'd rather be shopping than anything. to put it honesty, she'd been a bit shallow, a total troublemaker, spoiled, used to getting what she wanted. she was one of those kids in school, the popular ones who got their way and tended to tease the 'cretins' below them, as gemma had called them for quite some time. gemma found nothing wrong with this though, did any of them? they felt they were all on top of the world for quite some time.
up until half a year ago, gemma felt she had her life under control. things tend to happen though and her life started to roll downhill. a man had informed her that she was the 'vampire slayer' not that she had any idea what that was at the time. she thought it was some joke and quickly left, but she'd run into him again and he started to get creepy, asking her about her dreams. to be honest, the dreams she'd been getting were kind of creepy and the fact that he knew about them was a tad bit creepier. she left though, and didn't think of the man again until a week later when she was walking through the cemetery, a shorter way to get to where she was headed. someone had come up an attacked her, she later found out this was a vampire, and that was when the man walked out from behind some trees, claiming this was her first 'training' and tossed her a rather pointy stick (something she later found out to be a stake). in complete shock she almost got bit and has the scar to prove it, after regaining her composure she managed to do what the man told her to, stake him in the heart, and the vampire combusted into dust in front of her eyes. the man told her she was to fight the demons in the world, and according to him there was a specific one in the city that she had to destroy, as he'd so kindly put it. she fell into training with him, but often put her 'other life' ahead of her slayer duties, which caused quite a few problems. this led to quite the reckless behavior that caught both of her parents attention, and that's when the fighting started again. her parents got divorced because they couldn't both agree on a way to keep her under control. during the divorced though, her mother had moved her to a hotel until they found somewhere else to live when the divorced was finalized.
right before gemma's parents' divorce was finalized, her watcher had been killed by the demon gemma was supposed to kill. she hadn't had much training, and now she was on her own watcher-wise. when she actually did come face-to-face with this demon she managed to kill him. after that she decided she'd 'give up on slaying' and stuck around her moms hotel. when the divorce was finalized her mother packed up their stuff and they moved to miami, apparently her mother had gotten a job as a secretary in some big law firm there and they could use the new area to their best ability. according to her mother they both needed a new start. she's just recently started attending the new school, the most she's done this far is try to make friends and joined the cheerleading squad at this school. she has yet to run into any new watchers, though she has run into a pair of vampires since being here.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
gemma's a new slayer and she's a bit of a troublemaker, to be honest. she needs something to make her realize that she needs to stop putting other things ahead of being a slayer. sure, it's alright to do it sometimes, but when you're doing it all the time like gemma is, it's going to cause problems, she's putting others lives in danger. i'm not sure what, but i need something to make her realize that she can't always do things on her own. maybe she falls for the wrong guy and puts her friends in danger? or she runs off and does something on her own and almost gets herself killed? or she could be doing something on her own and a friend came after her and they almost got killed? something like that, or a few something's like that seeing as she's rather stubborn. once she realizes these things, she'll be a bit more of a determined slayer.

Five years | None | Vampire Slayer
buffy was tired of school all ready and it was only october. and on top of it only being october for this school year she still had another left after this one ended. though, she knew she'd dread next year. she was going to have very many people left. a lot of her friends were seventh years and would be graduating this year. as would the rest of her family. ezra, her brother, would be graduating this year, and so would her cousin, susie. that was what family she had in the school, and she was going to miss them both when they left. she wasn't sure who she'd miss more... one of her friends or one of her family members. she had quite a lot of friends leaving her this year, and only a few would still be with her in her last year. but she'd grown up with her brother and susie. susie had been her best friend since buffy was born, seeing as susie was seventeen now and buffy had only just turned sixteen at the end of the summer. susie had always been at buffy's house, their parents used to confuse them for the other considering how alike they used to look when they were younger. as the years went by, buffy still found herself close to susie, seeing as susie was the girl that buffy told just about everything to. they'd been attached at the hip when they were younger, as well. and then there was her brother ezra, who was also a seventh year and would be graduating this year. he could be a pain in the arse and he definitely annoyed buffy every now and then but he was her brother and she always got over it. they'd fight and two minutes later they'd both act like it hadn't just happened. they'd been that way since they were younger, and ezra had always been there for buffy and vice versa. although, ezra was far more protective over buffy than anyone else, he was always watching over her and telling her what was right from wrong and often enough it got on her nerves. when buffy was younger she'd often had sleepovers with susie and they'd sleep in the same bed, and when susie couldn't or didn't stay over buffy would crawl into ezra's bed late at night. just thinking it over it was becoming more clear that she was going to miss her brother and cousin far more than any one of her friends who left after this year. she wasn't positive which one she'd miss more, she'd say susie considering ezra tended to get on her nerves, but ezra was her brother and she loved him just as much as she loved susie. maybe she'd draw it at an equal line. the more she thought about it the more she missed them already. she knew she wouldn't be alone at school next year. there were other friends, other people, and there was always regulus. there would just be less people she was fond of around. she was sure she could deal with that, but she'd still be missing people no matter how she went about dealing with it. she could always owl them next year, and she'd keep in touch. but it would definitely be different, she was so used to having those people around that just thinking about them missing was giving her the chills.
she could fend for herself, of course. she was completely inept, or inept at all! she just had difficulties with certain things. for example, there was charms and quidditch and other little things that she couldn't do thrown about. she couldn't cook, and she wasn't the best at focusing in class either. but she could clean just well, and surprisingly enough she was wonderful with little children. it was often predicted that she would break in two minutes and snap at them, but that wasn't all that likely. she could hold her temper with them, for some odd reason. maybe it was because she understood that they knew better. she always made a wonderful babysitter over the summer. she didn't mind little children. she wasn't horrible at potions or transfiguration and she could talk her way out of trouble. she was obviously well talented in other things, but a lot of the things she possessed a talent or skill or even a knack for seemed a tad pointless. but just because they all seemed rather pointless didn't mean she was useless or that she couldn't survive or fend for herself. she could easily fend for herself, she wasn't horrible in all of her classes. and it wasn't like buffy didn't know a thing or two; she knew plenty more than that. she wasn't sure if it was even possible to not know anything after having attended hogwarts for six years already. it's seemed rather impossible to buffy. and if it wasn't; then she just wasn't that type of student. after having sat in class day after day for six year she's obviously picked things up. fending for herself wasn't what she was worried about. at the moment, she wasn't worried about anything and she was pretty sure she wouldn't be next year when quite a few of her friends were gone along with her brother and cousin. she was just going to be a bit... lonelier. she wasn't sure if that was actually the word she was looking for. she was just used to having those people around and without them it'd seem... bare. or at least she was assuming it would. she wasn't even sure why she was thinking about this now. she had a whole year left before it came to that. she could think about it then.
buffy dropped one of her hands from her lap to the ground. palm down, her pale hand connected with the vivid green grass. it felt warm compared to her cold hands. she didn't turn around to look at him when he began talking and instead cast her gaze back out towards the water once more. "teach you how to swim?" she repeated back, not having meant for it to come out sounding like a question. she was slightly surprised he didn't know how to swim already. she wasn't going to say anything about it. some people just didn't learn the same thing others did. besides, she already knew that the black's were a bit of a... odd family, to the say the very, very least. "i could do that," she said nodding not turning back to look at him. why he was asking her of all people to teach him how to swim was a bit beyond her, though. he could have just as easily asked one of his other friends, that she knew he had. she turned her gaze back to regulus when he told her that he couldn't swim. she bit her bottom lip; his cheeks had turned red and she couldn't help but feel sorry for him. buffy was hardly thrilled at the mention of his mother, from what she had heard about regulus' mother she could only assume the woman was a total loon. "i'm sure you won't sink to the bottom," she replied. she ran her hand over the grass once more, toying with a strand of it with one of her fingers. she never knew what to say when he was doubting himself on something. one of these times she was just going to tell him off in a long rant. the long rant would be a long compliment in disguise, though. she'd thought it out time and time again, and every time he doubted himself on something else she was adding to it. she would more than likely have to shorten it up if she ever did decide to go off on him, seeing as she felt like she had quite a bit to go off on. she wasn't really sure if she would ever actually do that, though... her gaze was focused on the grass she was toying with, but when he said he was always in a good mood. who did he think he was kidding? a small smile lit up her face with what he said next, and a light blush fell over her white cheeks. she bit her lip before quietly stating, "i believe the mood is returned when you're around." she glanced back down at the grass she was toying with before placing that hand back in her lap again, "...i hadn't thought about it like that. i suppose you're right," she said glancing back up at him.
she could fend for herself, of course. she was completely inept, or inept at all! she just had difficulties with certain things. for example, there was charms and quidditch and other little things that she couldn't do thrown about. she couldn't cook, and she wasn't the best at focusing in class either. but she could clean just well, and surprisingly enough she was wonderful with little children. it was often predicted that she would break in two minutes and snap at them, but that wasn't all that likely. she could hold her temper with them, for some odd reason. maybe it was because she understood that they knew better. she always made a wonderful babysitter over the summer. she didn't mind little children. she wasn't horrible at potions or transfiguration and she could talk her way out of trouble. she was obviously well talented in other things, but a lot of the things she possessed a talent or skill or even a knack for seemed a tad pointless. but just because they all seemed rather pointless didn't mean she was useless or that she couldn't survive or fend for herself. she could easily fend for herself, she wasn't horrible in all of her classes. and it wasn't like buffy didn't know a thing or two; she knew plenty more than that. she wasn't sure if it was even possible to not know anything after having attended hogwarts for six years already. it's seemed rather impossible to buffy. and if it wasn't; then she just wasn't that type of student. after having sat in class day after day for six year she's obviously picked things up. fending for herself wasn't what she was worried about. at the moment, she wasn't worried about anything and she was pretty sure she wouldn't be next year when quite a few of her friends were gone along with her brother and cousin. she was just going to be a bit... lonelier. she wasn't sure if that was actually the word she was looking for. she was just used to having those people around and without them it'd seem... bare. or at least she was assuming it would. she wasn't even sure why she was thinking about this now. she had a whole year left before it came to that. she could think about it then.
