Naomi had spoken with the principal about taking the position, she flashed some falsified paperwork about her work at Oxford University Library and smiled widely taking a temporary position in the schools fairly basic library. She wore a light blue maxi dress accompanied by wedged heel, not the most professional for an interview but she knew her qualifications would be enough to take the job. She nodded along as he spoke about the computers that had recently been installed. She resisted slapping him across the face for such blasphemy against the art form of books but decided that physical violence against was not the right way to securing a job.
Naomi nodded happily as the Principal led her to the library building, it was a ninth the size of her last library and had nowhere near as many books. Her eyes glanced at the shelves to see that some of them were baron of books. She bit her lip, this was going to be harder than she anticipated, she was going to have to train the slayer, educate her, deal with her comrades, avert an apocalypse and whip this library into shape.
”Public schools, how” she hesitated raking her mind for a word that was just nice, but with the right infliction could be cutting, “Charming.” she said with a sickly smile, she was quickly getting bored of this routine as the Principal received a call over the school’s radio, Naomi allowed him to see to a problem as she examined the library, the shelves were dusty, she could clearly see some pages had been torn from a book. The children were truly barbaric, without a constant presence here they had become vandals.
And there was a constant din, the faint but ever annoying sound of iPods murmured through the library. That would be the first thing she enforced, No iPods in the library, also no gum. She made her way through the library taking mental notes about what had to be fixed. She walked around the room silently examining the room. She stopped at the librarian’s counter, no teacher manned the station, books could easily have been taken out without anybodies knowledge, and she felt true despair as she stood by the station waiting for the principal to return.
