AND I'M FEELING MY WAY THROUGH THE DARK
- GENIUS
Jonathon Holster is a certified genius. He has an IQ of 198, and is probably the cleverest human you will ever meet. His been burying himself in facts and figures since he was a child, and he’s retained all the information he’s learnt. - LANGUAGES
Languages have always fascinated him, even as a child. Before he was 11 he was fluent in French, English and Spanish. During Secondary school (in the English education system) he also learnt German, and a little Italian. He also knows many demon, ancient, extinct and hieroglyphic languages, but is not fluent in all of them. - PHYSICALLY FIT
Holster has learnt to keep himself in good shape, with regular exercise and a good healthy diet. He doesn’t like working out though, or gyms, so gets most of his exercise from swimming, or martial arts, or on occasion, running to the bus. - EASY TO TALK TO
Unlike most Watcher’s, Holster doesn’t isolate his feelings. He’s able to relate to others, which makes him suited for the place of Student Councillor that he’s taken. He’s approachable and friendly, and most people don’t have a problem with talking to him. He’s always keen to offer advice, and is more than anything a good teacher. His methods of teaching are a bit odd, it’s true, but they still work. - MAGIC
Being a Watcher means that Holster does have a good grasp of magical knowledge, and several skills. He’s not a genius in this area, but he knows enough to get by in the supernatural world. Most of the spells he knows are quick to activate and work quickly, but are mainly protection, tracking, and location spells. He doesn’t work with anything big...though he has been tempted by both his father and his own curiousity. - EAGER
He wants to show that he can do this right, and is eager to do so. If he knows enough about something, he won’t waste time going over pointless details if the general gist is received by his Slayer. He’s quick to put plans into action, and his eagerness shines through in his ability to lead others.
WEAKNESSES
- INEXPERIENCED
Holster is the youngest Watcher to ever be assigned a Slayer, and he knows it from the amount of teasing and jibes he received back at the academy. He’s knowledgeable, but he’s never had the occasion to put any of his skills into use, and so in ‘real world’ situations, occasionally he has no idea what to do. - IMPULSIVE
Despite being the sort to lay out careful plans, Holster will sometimes deter from them without warning if he sees an opening. His actions can take others by surprise, and don’t always work for the best, but more often than not...they do. - YOUNG
A Watcher should be able to teach the Slayer everything they need to know. Holster is young enough to see be learning himself, despite him being a genius. His ideas of being a Watcher are idealistic, and don’t relate to the nitty-gritty reality. - STUBBORN
When Holster has an idea in his mind, he won’t let go of it. In fact, even if he’s told not to do something by someone high up...he won’t listen. If he believes something to be the right thing to do, he will simply do it. Oddly enough...usually his way ends up working. - "DADDY" ISSUES
Holster has a...bad relationship with his father. He always tries hard to please him, but it never seems to be enough, He’s been under pressure from his dark magic centred father all his life, to not be a watcher initially, and then to become the head watcher eventually. Holster’s father wants to gain control of the entire Watcher’s Council, through his son, and Holster is unable to really say no to him. If there was someone he’d admit to being scared of, it’s his father.

and i used to talk with honest conviction
OF HOW I PREDICTED MY WORLD
Holster is a fairly ordinary looking man, truth be told. He could be considered to be attractive, but likewise, he could be simply passed over as being another face in the crowd. However, he does look young, as he is. It’s hard for him to pass as being any older than his twenty-eight years. His body shape his fit and toned – the strict regime of an eager watcher evident when you notice it, but he’s not an especially heavily built man. He looks, body wise, like anyone else who works out down the gym.
His hair colour is brown, but that can also be considered to be a light auburn-ish colour in certain lights, just as his light hazel eyes could also be called gold (mainly by romantics, admittedly). His face is rather nicely shaped, and never clean shaven, the course stubble giving him a more ‘real’ look, compared to the military, artificial looks most Watcher’s nowadays seem to prefer.
To be blunt, Holster looks rather like an ordinary student councillor, who’s a health freak and who goes down the gym. He doesn’t look supernatural at all.
PERSONALITY
It would be nice to say that the youngest Watcher ever to be recorded to being given a Slayer was unique. But really, Holster isn’t that unusal, personality wise. He’s clever, and witty, and simply states things as they are rather than detailing in long winded stories that never seem to get to a point. He’s blunt, to the point, and a good teacher, even he wouldn’t lie about that. His teaching methods, and therefore method of punishment aren’t exactly orthodox, but they work, which is one of the main reasons why the Watcher’s council have given him this particular assignment. He’s easy to talk to, willing to give advice, and overall, he’s friendly. But he’s also impulsive. It’s hard to know what Holster is thinking, even to those who know him well, as usually he wears the same carefree ‘mask’ over his emotions and thoughts. He’s not two faced, exactly, but he can suddenly switch between ideas, and it’s hard to second guess him because usually? He’s making things up as he goes.
Many people accuse Holster of being a little child-like by way of being stubborn, and he is. He will argue his point, and continuing arguing it until the other person backs down, and he wins, even if his point turns out to be wrong. And despite being a naturally truthful person, he’s lenient, and perfectly content to brush over any of his, or his Slayer’s mistakes when reporting to the council, so the word doesn’t get back to his father.
He has a mild degree of respect for people older than him, such as Naomi Wilde, but he still won’t hesitate in questioning them. All Watcher’s have to have the ability to think on their feet rather than think through books and information, and Holster needs that more than most, because he’s never done this before. He’s inexperienced with the real life aspect of being a Watcher, and often, acting like he knows what he is doing is simply a cover up for him desperately making things up as he goes. He’s not as carefree or as happy as he always seems to make out.
LIKES
- READING
Holster has buried himself in books all his live, and he remembers what he has read. Both fact and fiction, he just laps it up. - MARTIAL ARTS
All the control that Holster has gained over his emotions was developed from this. He’s dabbled in many styles over the years, enough to combine them when actually fighting, and he enjoys them. - SCI-FI
Despite being an expert (ish) in the area of the supernatural, Holster does love his sci-fi. - BEING IN CONTROL
He likes to have a firm grasp over things, and over other things that might have happened. Knowing what’s been going on is something he believes to be helpful, and also something to use when he has no idea what else to do. - FRUIT SMOOTHIES
Actually, it’s more like an addiction. But there could be worse ones! - MEN
Holster is gay, just has never felt the urge to come out. Being home educated by a homophobic father, and then having no close friends later one makes it something that’s not very important. But he does enjoy admiring pretty boys from afar.
DISLIKES
- BEING CALLED JONATHON
Jonathon is his father’s name, and Holster doesn’t like his father. Ergo, he doesn’t like being called Jonathon. Or any nicknames revolving around that, to be honest. - ANECDOTES
He’s one of those people who get annoyed when people don’t just say what they mean. Anecdotes over simple points waste time, in his opinion. - CHOCOLATE
Technically, he’s allergic to it, but he’s a health freak anyway, so he probably wouldn’t like it even if he wasn’t. - LOSING AN ARGUMENT
It’s one of his most major flaws. Even if he realises that his point is wrong, he won’t back down or admit it. - ASKING FOR HELP
He has to prove he can do this. And in his mind, that means not asking for any help. - BEING HARRASSED
He’ll get there! It may take a while, but he will get there! There’s no need to nag him for anything. - HIS FATHER
The man who he only recently has realised has governed his entire life doesn't sit high on Holster's 'Like' list.

i'm gonna leave it to the star gazers

Holster was born as Jonathon Renez Holster Junior, to an English father (Jon Holster) and a French mother (Marie DeLabou). Before he was married, his father, Jon Holster, had been a Watcher, but had been kicked out by the Watcher’s council after illegally using black magic with some of his friends. Feeling disgraced, Jon had fled to France, where he had met Marie. A year later, they’d been married, and the young Holster had been born. Initially he was raised in France, in his mother’s family house. When he was seven, however, his mother was killed in a small scale car accident. His father had survived, despite having been the driver of the car they were both in, and after the funeral and, consequently, the selling of the house that his mother had practically given his father due to their marriage, Jon Holster moved both him and his son back to his own country of England.
It was there that Jon started teaching his young son about the supernatural, and training him to be a Watcher. Despite his age, the young Holster showed a fascination for the stories and facts alike about the supernatural side of the world, and had delved into those teachings with a hunger for knowledge. He was home educated from that day, both in the studious side (maths and English), in languages (both human and otherwise), and in the supernatural. Although he didn’t know it, his father had planned for his son to become a Watcher, like he had, but this time, not be kicked out. His father saw in his son a way to gain control of the Watcher’s Council, and so ingrained in him to be loyal and obey him.
Holster’s life continued in this way for many years, as he grew up, and he didn’t notice anything to be wrong. He lived a secluded life, and his father told him that these were the things that all children nowadays were taught, and he had learnt not to ever question his father. However, when he was fifteen, he had to attend a school for the first time, in order to take his exams which the council required for entry. So he entered the school environment, despite his father’s arguments against the law to the contrary...and was shown to his horror, that it was not a normal thing at all. He was thought of as being the freak, because he talked about the supernatural as if it was an everyday thing, as he’d been taught to believe. That was when he first started to question his father’s actions.
He was still selected to join the Watcher’s council, despite who his father was, and immediately buried himself into his studies. The other ‘students’ there all knew of his father, and their whispers and harsh words made him realise even more than something was wrong, but his father’s true plans never came to light. He grew to dislike the man, however, especially after realising his own sexuality. The anger his father excluded towards anyone even thought of as being homosexual both terrified him, and made him hate him. To avoid confrontation, Holster soon found it was easier to fight against other people, and argue his point in areas where he could actually win, rather than against his father, where he knew he couldn’t. His attention to detail and general intelligence and friendly manner (apart from the arguments), coupled with his hard work and dedication to reading up and learning knew things, Holster graduated the top of his class, and soon became, officially the youngest Watcher to be assigned a Slayer. Then the flack over his name stopped, but the flack for being so young just seemed to increase.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT As Eliza’s new Slayer, Holster's major role will be getting to know her, and train her, and also perhaps taking a mentoring lead when it comes to the Slayerettes. He’ll get annoyed about being supervised, and will probably argue his point a lot with the senior Watcher, but will try as hard as he can to make sure his Slayer survives, even if it means doing some unorthodox spells or deals himself. Later, the storyline about his father might be brought out if it fits in, in which case, the Slayerette’s and Eliza’s trust in him may be questioned, and could lead to some drama’s between that group.

four years | tobias, judex | watcher
It couldn’t be that hard. Holster had buried himself in books about the Watcher’s laws, and the Watching styles, and how to guide the Slayer’s for years. He knew the basics, the intermediate, and the most advanced things that you could learn from reading old texts and scrolls. Recorded information about the creatures recorded as being present in Miami had been issued to him, and right now, as he sat on the plane flying over the wide expanse of dark water below, from England the America, he was skimming through them. Miami, location of this Slayer and, oddly, the one before that. Miami, where the souled vampire was recorded as being, and where Naomi Wilde had reported from last.
He was exited, he wasn’t going to deny that. One foot in his basic black plimsolls was tapping against the bottom of the table in front of him, and his eyes kept flicking between the window and between the document in front of him, but for once, he couldn’t concentrate on his reading. Perhaps he was apprenhensive as well as excited, but emotions were something that Holster had never really bothered to learn to understand. Control them, yes, but not understand. He could be both, but there was no point wondering about them. In fact, it would be a better to just enjoy the flight in business class. The Watcher’s council really were a bunch of flash showoffs, he couldn’t help but think, rather fondly. He wasn’t complaining.
“Can I get you anything, Mr Holster?”
The syrupy voice attracted his attention, and his gaze once more flicked away from the (rather boring) view out of the window, and moved towards whoever it was who had spoken. One of the flight attendants had apparently realised that he was rather...well, either bored, or high. Judging by her gaze, it could be either, he quickly realised, as well as noting the tight uniform, and very blonde hair, and very female curves. As well as the rather hopeful look. He smiled at her, though, despite that.
“No, thank you. Just impatient to land, of course. And I don’t fly well with company,” he said, inclining his head politely, before turning away again. He was blunt, after all. And looking out of the window was more interesting than attempting to respond to a flirting female. It wouldn’t be long now, though. Wouldn’t be long until he was into the world of Watching. Words from the texts were running through his head, and he smiled. No, he was excited. He was looking forward to it.
