Rowan had been caught up in a new/old book. It wasn't unusual to catch him reading, but it wasn't an everyday experience either. He often read in public because it was easier for him to concentrate. He wasn't distracted by things in his room, and he could focus. His dad wasn’t around to put him to work. There were no little brothers calling his name or really distracting him besides the food in front of him. This was probably one of the main reasons Rowan never really liked to read all that much. He was always eating when he read. It struck something up in her mind that told her it was meal time. So, Rowan sat in the library with a very used book in one hand and a fork with some type of food in the other.
This book was unlike anything he ever read in his life. He found it in the library while helping Catherine pack up her belongings. He thought he had wrapped all of her tomes and her grimoire but upon returning to her station after she left he found one sitting on the ground, A leather bound book with a golden plate on the front, the Watcher Journals was engraved on the front with the Watcher council’s insignia bellow. Curiosity over took the student, Rowan opened it and realized that it had been extracts from several watchers over the years. He flipped through the pages and saw that it had been filled page to page.
The book was amazing, its first piece was dated June 8th 1853, and a slayer was discovered during the Taiping Revolution and fought in the war. The Journal documented the Watcher’s quest to find the slayer however when he eventually found her she had been killed by her fellow humans for showing inhuman levels of strength. Next followed the slayer Jeanette and her Watcher as the fought against an uprising of zombie’s within Paris’s famed catacombs. He was halfway through a passage about Lucia, a Barcelonan slayer who managed to avert the apocalypse shortly after world war two. He didn’t realise he had been reading for almost an hour and his food was all gone.
He looked around the deserted library, realising he was probably the last student inside the library, hopefully the others would arrive soon so they could strategise and go over their plans. He continued to read the diary until they arrived, the detail the watchers went into was fascinating and shone a light on the legacy of the slayer.

Arya walked into the library and saw Rowan sitting at one of the tables reading a book. It looked like some super old and probably informative book to say the very least. Hey Rowan she chimed as she set her stuff on the table and took a seat across from him. The library was a normal place for the slayerette,s or scoobies as they generally referred to themselves as, to meet. What are you reading now? she asked having only ever seen him read probably four times since they had been holding these meetings.
It had been a little while now since the disaster with Gemma and they were all holding up pretty well in these dark times. Things seemed to be getting pretty bad out in the world with more and more vampires showing up and other demons as well. More rituals seemed to be occuring, rituals that they couldn't generally stop even if they tried. They were doing their best but without a slayer they were deemed almost useless, luckily someone was watching their back because somehow these things were still being stopped before bringing the world to an end.
Pulling out her bottle of water she took a drink and then set it too on the table. All of them hoped that a slayer and watcher would show up sooner rather than later but so far one hadn't shown herself. It was rather disheartening and spirits as well as moral were getting harder and harder to keep going. They were all trying their best but it was discouraging because they could only do so much. Things were just a lot harder now that Gemma and Catherine were gone.
Arya peered over at the book he was reading and snatched up a few sentences and phrases here and there. Looks pretty cool, getting some good information from it I hope? she replied with a smile. Everyone in the group had made an effort to treat each other as friends even though they all pretty much came from different backgrounds and popularity status'. [/blockquote]

Sighing, he put the phone back into his pocket, stacked his books together neatly into his bag, and began proceeding out of the quad and back into the husstling corridors. Preston had just called him, informing him that his parents were forcing him to stay there for a few more weeks. Apparently there is much wildlife to be seen still. Since when was sightseeing more important than fighting evil? It was probably the preferred choice, but since when were preferences always what we recieved in the end? He wasn't blaming Preston, after all, he knew he was aching to get back into it and help them out. It was harder on Preston, he couldn't deny that. He had always had a crush on the slayer, and losing her just shattered all of his hopes.
Pushing the library doors in, he walked in, not looking his usual cheery self. He had been like this for a while now. Since Gemma's death, Catherine and Preston's departure. He felt like he was the head researcher, and was expected to know what slime the demon was shooting from where before it even shot it. That was Catherine's job, not his. He was the apprentice, being the assistant. He wasn't ready to be un-apprenticed yet. Why couldn't Catherine come back? He knew she would if she could, but it really did suck at times like these.
He nodded his head towards Arya and Rowan. It seemed this was the crew for today. He was sure Christine would make herself known one way or another, but other than that, there was noone else. A few rookie students pretending to be vampire hunters, how lame! "Just got a call from Preston...Long story short, his stuck there for a few more weeks. I guess this means Rowan and me are still the muscle. I didn't even wanna be the muscle...I'm more of a 'strike with my mind' kind of guy. He smiled softly, before sitting down and picking up a book out of curiosity. "So no idea on whats been causing the random killings yet?" It was more a conversation starter than a stupid question. He knew the random killings weren't just going to pop out in a book, but it was worth a try.

Rowan put down the book as Arya entered, “Sort of, it’s not exactly current information but these slayers, they really kicked ass.” he said closing the book, ”The stuff they did, if it wasn’t for them I think the world would have ended like five or six times by now.” he acknowledged the witch’s arrival by passing her the book in his hands. “It’s all put together by a woman called Naomi Wilde. She was a Watcher Historian or something she was one of the watchers who rehabilitated Logan.” he said referring to the Vampire with a soul who fought alongside Gemma before she was killed. Shortly after Arya, Zane entered the room. Rowan forced a smile as the two sat closely together, if Christine didn’t turn up he would be the third wheel. Superb.
He smiled as Zane referred to himself as the muscle, “Let’s be honest Zane, your girlfriend here packs a more potent punch than either of us,” Rowan had become somewhat defeatist recently. His social life had spiralled to meeting with a group of suicidal vampire hunters. ”This whole situation is bigger than us, when Catherine was still around at least we had some guidance, now it’s like we’ve been abandoned and we’re just waiting for the barricade to be broken down.
He shrugged his shoulder as Zane asked about the random killings. All they had to go on was newspaper reports. The details were hidden from the public, even police reports didn’t give the full story, they didn’t want the masses to know about the supernatural killings instead they had created a fake serial killer to evoke fear without telling the truth. It hadn’t helped that none of them had even got close to a crime scene, in an attempt to turn invisible Rowan had performed a spell that only caused him to develop a rather unsightly rash. He decided he was going to leave the magic to the witches and druids from now on.
“Until we can get our hands on some evidence reports or crime scene info we’re just treading water, it could be anything; I’m going to just throw my two cents in and say Elves. Or the Ghost of Elvis.” he suggested sarcastically however it was as good a guess as any of the others they had theorised.

Eliza had heard rumors about a group that was still fighting the good fight, a group that had once been led by Gemma but she had kept her distance from them until now. It had been too hard for her to step into Gemma's shoes without any notice and had taken her a little while to learn how to cope with her new impending doom. It wasn't exactly that much fun to have a ticker over your head just counting down the seconds until you died. Her lifespan had been shortened as of late but thankfully there were people out there campaigning for her to beat it and win. She didn't want to die anytime soon and was going to fight her hardest until she couldn't anymore.
It was time for her to show her face in the library, she knew that Zane was part of the gang and one of her best friends, Christine, was as well. There were roughly two or three others in the group but she hadn't met any of them. With a deep sigh she hefted her backpack up further on her shoulder and pushed open the library door to see a small group of three people sitting at a center table, other than them the place was deserted. This had to be them and as she approached the table she could tell by the type of books that were surrounding them that she was right.
Hey guys she chimed hoping to catch their attention. She wasn't exactly sure how to go about this smoothly and decided that she should treat it like a bandaid and just get it over with. She had to tell them sooner or later and they probably needed her help just as she needed theirs. I'm Elizabeth and I am kinda...well...I'm a slayer. I heard you guys are on my side, watching my back you know she replied holding her breath slightly afterwards. She couldn't predict how they would react and she was ready for the worst. In all honesty, sitting here and soaking in the knowledge from books wasn't getting them anywhere. There were more killings everyday. From what he had learned from Catherine so far, when it was like this, something was up. Shouldn't it have been quiet? After all, the big bad was gone, Azazel was dead? Although there were many more out there as powerful as him, shouldn't it be like a evil holiday or something? Apparently they had strong work ethics.
"And its a pretty fallable barricade," he chipped in, ending with a sigh. What had they achieved so far? Slain a couple of vamps here and there? That was doing nothing for the impending evil coming. Although they were doing something, it wasn't enough. If only he knew a spell to help them out. He had been discussing it with Aryanna, but no success as of yet. "I really do miss Catherine. Who do those old all so knowledgeable watchers council think they are taking away one of our most valuable assets and friends? They should really be punished for that. Wait, if we don't like the watchers council, doesn't that make us evil? We'd probably have more luck getting anywhere that way," he chucked softly, making light of the situation.
He made sure to sit next to Arya, and put his hand over hers as she was reading a book, delivering a comforting smile towards her. "I've been looking through the texts Catherine left for us, but still nothing on any way we can help with spells and the sort. I feel so useless, not being able to help in that way." He glanced up at Rowan at his joking comment. "I heard elves are really nice creatures...But what good are fairytales in supernatural circumstances? Its like...Writing a book about powerful vampires and shipping it off to young kids. Not very useful." He paused for a moment. "And the ghost of Elvis? I spose listening to good music has to beat the creepy crawlies of the night."
It wasn't long before someone else had entered the fray. It was Elizabeth, one of his friends outside of the slayerettes. He smiled, rather surprised to see her here. He knew she enjoyed the library though, however he made sure to not press on about the supernatural. They had been involved in some "events" together, to say the least, however he didn't believe she suspected anything. It wasn't long before she came out that she was the slayer, and his mouth shot wide open. It was something he hadn't even realized. Catherine mentioned that when one dies, another is called, and it did make complete sense. He just hadn't expected it to be here in Miami. "Oh." He stated, not really sure what else there was to say. He looked around awkwardly at everyone else, seeing if their reaction was similar to his. "Um...Come sit down, join us. We were just discussing what failures we are," he smirked softly.

Rowan nodded in agreement with Zane, they had been pretty useless. It wasn’t for lack of trying but they needed a miracle if they were going to survive another month of this. He nervously bit his fingernails as Zane didn’t sense he was joking. They were all doomed. He knew Arya was getting more powerful but it was still too slow. Zane had proved himself a capable fighter and Rowan was good at picking off vampires from a distance with his bow and arrow, also he could brawl with the best of them. The team had improved vastly from their first encounter with a vampire but they were far from an impressive unit.
Rowan tossed his rucksack over his books quickly to cover the occult and supernatural things they had been looking at, it was late he assumed nobody else would bother coming into the library. “Oh hi” he said as she made her way into the room and announced she was the slayer. Rowan’s jaw was still on the floor when Zane simply invited her to join them at the table. Logan watched as she pulled out a chair and awkwardly sat down.
Almost as soon as she sat down Rowan snapped back into reality, “So you’re the slayer, the slayer” He spoke slowly over annunciating the words as he looked Eliza up and down. “Does anybody else think it’s a little too convenient we’re standing around talking about how we wish we had a slayer and the door breezes open and ta-daa we have our savoir.” he said almost angrily. As he looked from Zane to Arya trying to gauge if they were buying her story.

It had to be some sort of miracle, or coincedence. They were all just talking about how bad they needed some help from a slayer since Gemma was out for who knows how long. Then all of the sudden some girl shows up claiming to be the slayer, it was just too weird. She let her mind open up to the girl that had just arrived and felt for the power that should be emitting from her. After waiting for a few moments she felt the power she was looking for. It was there, the exact same power she had felt with Gemma, this girl was telling the truth. It was amazing, perfect timing really because everyone in the group was getting pretty worn down and depressed.
Calm down Rowan, she is who she claims to be. I can feel the power coming from her. Her aura feels exactly as Gemma's did. Besides who are you to judge who she is or isn't, Catherine told us that because Gemma had died a new slayer would be called. It only makes sense that she was here in Miami considering some big shit is happening here. We need her, don't go scaring her off now unless you feel like being dinner for some vamp because you and I both know we can't keep going on like this much more she replied in a sort of harsh but comanding tone.
Rowan didn't have the right to be so rude to this girl. It wasn't like it was Eliza's fault that she had happened to show up right at this moment. She could have shown up a week agon, a month ago or three weeks later, it was just a coincidence that she had shown up today. Arya for one was happy that they had a slayer again, they needed all the help they could get or else she knew it was inevitable that they were going to start dieing. [/blockquote]

It occured to her that this group was struggling with their responsibilities. But really it wasn't there job to kill vampires and demons, it was hers. They were just high school kids that had decided to try and be heros. It wasn't that Eliza didn't appreciate the help because the more help she had the more chances she had to survive longer but still they weren't exactly cut out for this like she was. Due to this she could understand why there was a sense of hostility in the room, they were tired and at their wits end.
Zane invited her to site with them and she took the offer sitting down on the edge of her seat. This was an awkward situation no matter how you spun it but it was something she knew that she had to do. The other boy of the group didn't take her enterance as well as the girl and Zane did. He doubted her, she could sense it in his voice. He figured she was just some person pulling his leg. The girl piped up and claimed that she could sense the power that Eliza had, was she some sort of witch or something? If so that could come in handy, Eliza had never encountered a witch before. I understand why you are skeptical but this isn't ideal for me either. How would you feel if one day your life was your own, you destiny was in your own hands and then you wake up the next day and everything has been decided for you. I didn't ask for this to happen to me but when Gemma died I was the next in line, I was the next to be called to duty. I can help you guys if you let me but I won't sit here and be treated like crap either. If you want my help I can offer it but I am perfectly capable of working on my own as well. Believe me or don't but just remember whatever decision you make your life may depend on it she replied looking at them seriously.
Ever since becoming the slayer her personality had hardened more than before. Before she had been shy and kept to herself but now she had blocked off some of her emotions in order to do her job. She couldn't be an emotional wreck and fight the forces of darkness. Logan had helped her train and made her a better fighter and pretty soon she would have a watcher, for now she was in charge though. [/blockquote]

His face turned to confusion at Rowan's outburst. He didn't understand what it was that was driving Rowan to feel this way. Rowan had usually appeared calm and collected, but he did tend to be impulsive if he didn't agree with anything. However it was usually more as a joke. And this was definantly no joke. He sighed so softly that noone would be able to hear, as he listened to Arya and Rowan trading exchanges with eachother. He glanced over to Eliza, feeling terrible for how awkward and out of place she must be feeling right at this moment. No one deserved to be put through that. And she was the good guy. The good guy. The one that they had been so desperately needing. He meant no offence to Rowan, but he did trust his girlfriend's instincts.
He continued listening as now Elizabeth piped in. This was an awful situation, which was getting basically everyone either worked up, or feeling insecure and out of place. When Elizabeth finished, he smiled towards her softly, before glancing at Rowan. "If Arya feels she is the slayer, then she can be trusted, Rowan. She is on our side...And in case you haven't noticed from how successful our last attempts at being renegade vampire hunters were, we desperately need the help. Its sad that Gemma most likely won't wake up from the coma she's been in for weeks, but at the same time, we can't just sit around and discredit ourselves. Especially now that we have help, right here in this room with us." He glanced at Elizabeth again, not wanting to see Rowan's face if another outburst occurs. He didn't understand why Rowan was feeling this way. Gemma and himself weren't that close, so why was there such strong hostility, as if she was replacing their friend, or something?
He focused his attention back on Elizabeth, trying to avert anyone from anything but a calm and collected posistion. "We can't really offer much to you at the moment. Arya and I practice magic, and have been working on at least becoming somewhat "badass mojo momma...Or daddy" with it. Rowan is skilled with a bow and arrow, which is always good in those 'wanting to stay clear of a vampire' situations. Christine....Christine is in many ways the strategic one behind the group. Shes just not here today, obviously." He looked around the room, sighing softly. Maybe thats why they were so extra down today.

Rowan clenched his fist as he was spoken down by the other two members of the group. It wasn’t that he didn’t believe that she was the slayer, he just had a hard time seeing where he fit into the situation. He actually had a hard time seeing how anybody other than the slayer was involved in the situation. He had seen Gemma’s injuries, he had been tossed 20 feet across a cemetery by a vampire only last week. He knew that people had been killed by demons in the city but he was just a kid. He was barely seventeen and he didn’t have anything really special. ”Look, I’m sorry if I was rude but, this, it’s not my life. Demons, fighting all of it is just so messed up and I can’t do magic and I’m not special.” he said he stood up grabbing his rucksack, “I’m can’t keep doing this, you don’t need me now that she’s here.” he said quietly.
He walked briskly towards the door as he twists the handle he turns to the group, ”This is bigger than all of us, I know you think that because you can do a few spells and levitate a book that you’re a witch but if you don’t stop you’re going to regret it. he warned the few remaining members of the gang. He felt sick, the only people in the school who were willing to accept him for whatever he wanted to be were the ones he pushed away. He wasn’t sure what was coming over him, maybe he had been slowly boiling up to this moment for a while. He didn’t know he just had to get away from them.

The boy by the name of Rowan was having a hard time adjusting to her arrival, that much was apparent from the start. But it slowly became evident that really he was having a hard time with the life he had been leading. He didn't want to fight demons anymore and that was fine, it was his choice and she didn't care whether he stayed or went. Listening to Zane she learned that Arya, the girl, and himself were both learning and practicing magic, that could come in handy for sure. When Rowan made another outburst and then stood up to leave Eliza watched him go. His parting sentence was a little harsh and could tell that he was hurt, confused and out of place so she didn't really take any note of it.
I'm sorry about your friend, but he is right. Fighting vampires and demons isn't his life, just as it isn't yours either. It is my destiny and my job to do it and I would appreciate any help you can offer but if there is ever a time where you feel too overwhelmed and want to back out then let me know. The door is always open, this isn't a life I would ask of anyone. It is dangerous and only slighty rewarding, usually the people you save will pretend like it never happened to save what is left of their sanity. I don't have time to babysit people that don't want to be here like Rowan, I can't be worrying about watching your back and my own. I need to know you are all in or I need to know if you want to leave she sighed. It was harsh and she knew it was but things had been harsh for a while now. The truth was harsh, life was harsh.
